Reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge recently spoke about the New York Yankees’ new infield partnership for the 2025 season, featuring Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base and Anthony Volpe at shortstop. Chisholm Jr., acquired from the Miami Marlins in 2024, is set to become the Yankees’ everyday second baseman after Gleyber Torres’ departure.
Chisholm Jr. has claimed that he and Volpe will form one of the best shortstop-second baseman duos in MLB. When asked about this by Yes Network’s Meredith Marakovits, Judge expressed his agreement:
“He’s on par with it,” Judge said. “Especially with how well they both play defense. They have so much range, speed, and quickness. Their instincts are top-notch. If it’s not the best, it’s definitely in the top 10. It’s going to be fun to see those two do their thing up the middle.”
While Chisholm Jr. and Volpe will anchor the middle infield, the Yankees face a potential issue at third base with DJ LeMahieu’s injury. The team might consider trading for veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado as a solution.

Chisholm Jr. had a solid start with the Yankees last season and is aiming high for 2025. Speaking to MLB Network on X, he said:
“We all know I’m going for the Gold Glove, man, that’s the only way I know how to go. There’s only one way I aim and it’s at the top. So for me, it means Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, do it all. Might win an MVP.”
Chisholm Jr. showcased his power in a recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting a two-run home run to help the Yankees score in a 6-5 loss. He drove in two runs with two hits in three plate appearances.
