The New York Yankees made significant moves this offseason, acquiring Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs and signing Paul Goldschmidt on a one-year, $12.5 million deal. Bellinger, who joined the Yankees after the team missed out on Juan Soto, believes Goldschmidt will be a valuable addition despite a subpar 2024 season.

Bellinger’s Confidence in Goldschmidt

Cody Bellinger, who held a press conference during the Yankees’ spring training camp in Tampa, Florida, praised Goldschmidt’s skill set. He highlighted Goldschmidt’s consistent defensive performance, baserunning abilities, and offensive prowess. “He’s a pro’s pro. Really, really good baserunner. Steals bases. The offense speaks for itself,” Bellinger said. “I expect Paul to be Paul. He’s a tremendous player.”

Not About Replacing Soto

Both Bellinger and Goldschmidt have been named MVP in the National League during their careers, with Bellinger winning in 2019 and Goldschmidt in 2022. Bellinger downplayed the idea that he and Goldschmidt need to replace Soto’s offensive production. “Soto is a once-in-a-generation talent,” Bellinger said. “But for me and Paul, it’s not necessarily about replacing anybody; it’s about coming in and performing to the best of our ability.”
